Our Green
Tourism Policy ...
|
|
|
|
... helping to Save the Planet for our children.
|
|
We are a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme and as such we are committed to good environmental practice and sustainable development.
We meet the minimum legal requirements related to environmental
protection and waste disposal and aim to minimise our impact and
maximise the positive aspects that we have on the environment.
We support sustainable tourism through activities in
economic, social and environmental issues.
|
|
WE are demonstrating our commitment in practice through the following activities:
-
We are a totally non-smoking
building, encouraging better health as well as reducing the need for cleaning and redecoration.
-
All our appliances are "A" rated for energy efficiency and we will look after these and replace with high efficient ones when necessary.
-
We use low energy bulbs wherever possible inside and outside the building to save energy. Sometimes we see the Northern Lights if outside lighting is off.
-
Insulation, including glazing and draught proofing,
complies with strict building regulation as at 2009.
-
Water saving measures such as dual flush and shower flow are in place, as the private supply is pure and precious.
-
We use non phosphate and
non chlorine cleaners to look after our waste system because the view and the fresh air is what we treasure.
|
YOU can help us in our endeavours by:
- Taking care of our local waste system by only using the products provided. Products that include chlorine will kill our digester, create smell and
pollution.
- Reduce food mileage by getting your food on the Island. We have great products and you will experience the taste of Skye
- Think about who produces the food and drinks you consume
here and consider fair-trade or organic (from Portree Co-op) to help improve standards for all
- Separate your waste into the recyclable bins to help us conserve landfill space and look after our beautiful landscape
"The above activities are just a small sample of the good practices being undertaken to minimise our damage to our planet. They are taken from the 150 measures which make up the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
